Why Becoming a Living Wage Employer is Important to MPG

Maddy Atkinson, Head of People and Culture, Metro Production Group

This month, MPG has become accredited as a Living Wage Employer. Our Living Wage commitment will see everyone working at MPG receive a minimum hourly wage of £91200 in the UK or £13.15 in London. Both rates are significantly higher than the government minimum for over 25s, which currently stands at just £7.83 per hour.

The majority of our employees are based in London and the South East where over a fifth of all jobs (21%) pay less than the real Living Wage. In becoming a real Living Wage Employer, we are committed to delivering a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work.

The real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. Since 2011 the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 160,000 people and put over £800m extra into the pockets of low paid workers.

We are delighted to have joined the movement of over 4,700 responsible employers who commit to go further than the government minimum when it comes to pay.  If you would like to join the movement, visit https://www.livingwage.org.uk/
